Storytelling in Video Games.

The Warriors is a PS2 and XBOX video game that is based on the 1979 Movie with the same name. It is about a gang from Coney Island caught up in the gang violence around the Bronx area. During the meeting Cyrus, the Riffs leader is shot from the crowd and killed. He is shot by another gang leader, Luther of The Rogues. During the chaos from the gunshot Luther shouts from the crowd that it was actually The Warriors who shot Cyrus, The Riffs then surround Cleon, The Warriors leader and beat him to death. Meanwhile everyone scatters from the scene including the Warriors remainders. The rest of the story follows them trying to survive getting back to Coney without being beaten to death on the way home. The game follows the same story except it also goes back in time before the meeting and shows how The Warriors got started and started to make a name for themselves.

Games with No Story:

There is such a thing as games with no stories, an example of games like this are Tetris and Flappy Bird, mainly very short games with a linear style of gameplay with a basic idea of what it's about. People play these games because they are very primitive and you can just pick them up and play them. You don't need to much information or instructions to play. People that play these games are maybe older people such as parents that play Mobile Games, such as Flappy Bird. They like these games because they don't need to know the controls or have to get too involved and they can pick it up and put it down whenever they want.

Linear and Non-Linear Games:

Linear means that it follows the same path such as it follows the same plot or follows the same controls. In games this means that games like Flappy Bird are linear because you just do the same thing over and over again, the game doesn't progress any further and the gameplay doesn't change. A Non-Linear game changes all the time and won't follow the same path such as Fallout 4, this changes all the time and there is constantly different stories and things to do. You have to focus more on the game and won't be able to just pick it up whenever and wherever you want. Once you do pick it up you will be absorbed in it for a while and wont be able to put it down as easy.
