Unit 78: Generate Concept Art.

What is a Brief?

Client Brief:
The Client Brief is the start-up tool the College uses to commence work on a project that will have a budget of £150,000 or above. The Client Brief can be drafted by a College stakeholder

Own Brief:
To brief someone is to prepare or instruct them by giving a summary of relevant facts. In this situation, your brief is a document that informs the potential supplier your requirements, what you wish to achieve

Market Research:
The activity of gathering information about consumers' needs and preferences.

Ideas Generation:

What would you do next?

Brainstorming:
Process for generating creative ideas and solutions through intensive and freewheeling group discussion. Every participant is encouraged to think aloud and suggest as many ideas as possible, no matter seemingly how outlandish or bizarre.

Mood Boards:
An arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc. intended to project a particular style or concept “We put together a mood board with key images and words that best convey the essence of the brand”

Thumbnail Sketching:
Art directors and graphic designers, as well as other kinds of visual artists, use the term "thumbnail sketch" to describe a small drawing on paper (usually part of a group) used to explore multiple ideas quickly. Thumbnail sketches are similar to doodles, but may include as much detail as a small sketch.

Concept Drawings:

Backgrounds:
Drawing an idea of a background i.e. a forest

Sprites: Sketching an idea for a 2D object i.e. sketching objects

Characters: Sketching an idea for some characters i.e. ‘Jagex’ sketching Green Dragons.

Weapons/Vehicles:
Creating ideas for new guns or new cars to go into your game or box art.

Legal and Ethical Considerations

What is Copyright Law?

A copyright is a legal device that gives the creator of artistic, musical or other creative work the sole right to publish and sell that work. Copyright owners have the right to control the reproduction of their work, including the right to receive payment for that reproduction. An author may grant or sell those right to others such as Publishers or Recording companies. Violation of a copyright is called infringement.

What is Libel?

Publish in print (including pictures), writing or broadcast through radio, television or film, an untruth about another which will do harm to that person or their reputation, by bringing the target into ridicule or hatred.

What is Intellectual Property?

Intellectual property (IP) refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce. IP is protected in law by, for example, patents and copyrights, which enable people to earn recognition or financial benefit from what they invent or create.
